Dr. Rajeev Ranjan

Bio-profile

Dr. Rajeev Ranjan belongs to the prestigious Indian Foreign Service (IFS). He took charge as the Assistant High Commissioner of India in Chittagong on 20 January 2022.

After graduating from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Jamshedpur, he worked as a medical officer in a remote tribal district in Jharkhand that provided him an opportunity to serve different tribal communities and helped in understanding their rich traditions and culture.

As a diplomat, his first assignment abroad was in the Embassy of India, Mexico City, where he also learnt Spanish language at the renowned National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Dr. Ranjan served in New Delhi at Ministry of External Affairs in different capacities looking after India’s relations with Sri Lanka and ASEAN countries. In the Consular, Passport and Visa Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, he was the officer in-charge of Extradition and Mutual Legal Assistance matters.

Before joining Chittagong, he served in the diplomatic Mission of India in Brussels where he was looking after European Parliamentary affairs and external relations of the European Union.

Dr. Ranjan is passionate about Indian music and dance and loves sports, Yoga and reading about different cultures around the world.

He speaks Hindi, English and Spanish and also conversant in Magadhi and Bengali.

Dr. Ranjan is married to Mrs. Sushmita Ranjan and they have a son, Vedant.
